Logistics really is a game

Stuck for ideas for Christmas? A new board game designed to inspire children about business and logistics might help you out.

Business on the Move challenges players to deliver customer orders, as profitably as possible, while responding to dynamic environmental and economic factors. Each player must buy logistics assets such as ships and trailers, pay for staffing, and optional insurance to run their business.

Supported by the UK Warehousing Association and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the game has been designed to work with various national curriculum subjects across different age groups.

Business in the classroom

Created by The Very Enterprising Community Interest Company, the brains behind the product are former teachers Pat Smedley and Andy Page. As a community interest company all dividends will return to the business or benefit communities.

To help make the game more attractive to schools, the creators are appealing to logistics operators to sponsor slots on the board or the identity of the player roles.

Roger Williams, UKWA chief executive, said: “Andy and Pat have developed a product that will broaden young peoples’ understanding of global supply chains and raise their career aspirations. I am sure the industry will give this excellent project the support it deserves.”
